Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) Public Notice
On April 15, 2020, the Knox County Career Center on behalf of the Knox Technical Center signed and returned the “Recipient’s Funding Certification and Agreement” to the U.S. Department of Education. The Knox Technical center certifies that the institute intends to use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
The Knox Technical Center has currently received $84,352.00 for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
Seventy-nine students were determined eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus were eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. All seventy-nine students received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
The method that the Knox Technical Center used to determine which students received Emergency Financial Aid Grants was an EFC of 5576 or below from their completed 2019-2020 FAFSA and received PELL grant while enrolled in a Title IV eligible program. Professional Judgement was offered to students who had an EFC above 5576 and were not eligible for the PELL grant but could show proof of unemployment due to COVID-19. The amount of $84,352.00 received by the Knox Technical Center for the CARES Act was divided equally amongst all seventy-nine students.
Students who were determined eligible for the Emergency Financial Aid Grants had to complete certify, sign, and date the following statements:
I (student name) certify that I have incurred economic hardship due to COVID-19 in one or more of the following areas: loss of income, additional household expenses (utilities, food, childcare, etc.), and technology expenses to remain on-line with my program.
I (student name) certify that I will use grant money received from Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES Act) to cover cost of attendance expenses related to my FY 2019-2020 education for the following items: food, housing, course materials, technology, health care, and child care.
