Fire Instructor

If you are a Firefighter who wants to train future Firefighters, this course will prepare you with the skills to pass on your knowledge.

Program length

Fire Instructor: 60 hours
​Live Fire Instructor: 24 hours

After completing this program...

You will be eligible to sit for the Ohio Fire Instructor Knowledge Exam

Enrollment Requirements

  • Comply with the requirements for a Firefighter Certificate as set forth in paragraph (F) of 4765-20-02 of the Ohio Administrative Code
  • Possess a current and valid Firefighter certificate that is in good standing; in the preceding seven years, have been certified for at least five years as a Firefighter
  • Successfully pass the Instructor Knowledge Examination as set forth in rule 4765-21-05 of the Administrative Code at the Firefighter II level within one year prior to admission into a Fire Instructor course
  • Submit a completed Fire Instructor, Assistant Fire Instructor and/or Fire Safety Inspector Instructor Initial application within two years of passing the knowledge examination. Must submit a copy of your results
  • Complete the process as outlined on the enrollment page​

The KTC Public Safety program is approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education.  Our programs are accredited by the Ohio Department of Public Safety #OH116.  Applicants for the Public Safety programs must meet moral, ethical, and substance use policies of the Ohio Department of Public Safety (OAC 4765).
